Starke County Economic Development Foundation Executive Director Lisa Dan gave an update on the hotel feasibility study.
Starke County Economic Development Foundation officials believe that it is critically important to the local economy and tourism in Starke County for these amenities to be available.
During a Knox City Council meeting in July, Executive Director Lisa Dan explained the person in charge of development and new construction of Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, Inc. believed a new 60-room hotel would be a good fit for the area and suggested doing a feasibility study. The City of Knox and the Starke County Convention and Visitors Commission funded the feasibility study.
Dan told WKVI News the study received 65 local area responses from businesses. She added 95 percent of the responses expressed a need for hotel amenities dealing with their customers needing a place to stay.
The study also found between Logansport and LaPorte there are no amenities for people traveling on U.S. 35. Dan said the study suggested Knox as the best location for a 50-60 room hotel. She went on to say she has already been in contact with two separate entities that are in the hotel business.
A timeline was not given on the project but Executive Director Lisa Dan says the Starke County Economic Development Foundation is working toward having a hotel in Starke County a reality sooner than those may think.
