The Knox Board of Works announced they have been awarded a Community Crossings Matching Fund Grant during their meeting last week.
It was announced and reported last month by INDOT the City of Knox was awarded $356,655.33.
To qualify for funding, local governments must provide local matching funds of 50 percent for larger communities or 25 percent for smaller communities and have an asset management plan for maintaining existing roads and bridges. State law requires annually that 50 percent of the available matching funds be awarded to communities within counties with a population of 50,000 or fewer.
It was announced during last weeks Board of Works meeting the project that Knox has been awarded will go toward two inch mill and fill for designated streets throughout town.
Mill and fill is a structural pavement treatment that involves the removal of the existing surface layer. The surface is removed with a milling machine and then replaced with new asphalt. This process is used when a surface has deteriorated to poor condition.
The city is now awaiting plans and specifications to be drawn up. Once received, they will move forward with the bidding on the project.
