The Starke County Council held discussions on a Local Road Safety Plan during their meeting last week.
Starke County Highway Superintendent Dan Dipert informed the council members that the county is higher than the state average in animal and intersection accidents. He said he believes putting a plan together would open up the county to good opportunities when it comes to roadway safety.
A Local Road Safety Plan provides a framework for organizing and prioritizing roadway safety improvements on local and rural roads. The process of developing a Local Road Safety Plan can be tailored to local protocols, needs and issues.
Superintendent Dipert presented the council with more information on the plan to read on their own. The council discussed funding for a Local Road Safety Plan. In a previous county commissioner meeting, Dipert said an estimate at the time for the plan is between $35,000 and $45,000. He went on to say he would like to use ARPA funds toward the Local Road Safety Plan.
The council took the report under advisement and plan to discuss this at a future meeting.
