The Knox City Council approved a resolution confirming interest in the purchase of real estate for housing development during their meeting Tuesday.
Knox Mayor Dennis Estok mentioned the location of the land potentially being purchased is on Short Drive. He said the city has had a counter offer accepted but will first need to have two separate appraisals done on the real estate they hope to purchase. He added it is 21 acres with the possibility of 52 lots. He said he has been working with the USDA, K-IRPC and the Indiana Housing Authority on the proper way to go about getting this project underway.
Mayor Estok stated he wants to put together the right package that will not cost taxpayers but still be able to address the housing development issue in the city of Knox. He said there is no time table but getting the project underway this year could be a possibility.
