The Starke County Commissioners and Council both heard an update on the Local Road Safety Plan during their meetings Monday.
Starke County Highway Superintendent Dan Dipert addressed the commissioners and council with a much lower quote than previously received. The first quote received from USI came in at $74,000 to have a Local Road Safety Plan put together. Dipert said the second quote came from HWC Engineering in the amount of $34,500.
A Local Road Safety Plan provides a framework for organizing and prioritizing roadway safety improvements on local and rural roads. The process of developing a Local Road Safety Plan can be tailored to local protocols, needs and issues.
In a previous commissioner and council meeting, Superintendent Dipert presented them with more information on the plan to read on their own. While the second quote came in much lower, both commissioners and council members discussed needing more information. Starke County Council members had several questions and concerns they were still unclear on with the Local Road Safety Plan.
The commissioners and council decided to table talks of a Local Road Safety Plan until more information can be obtained and presented at a future meeting.
