The Starke County Commissioners discussed updating the County Government Employee Handbook during their meeting Monday.
Starke County Auditor Rachel Oesterreich informed the commissioners several updates need to be done to the handbook. Oesterreich stated she is in contact with Starke County Attorney Justin Schramm often when it comes to Human Resource issues. She mentioned Schramm uses a specialist by the name of New Focus HR.
Oesterreich said New Focus HR reviewed the current Starke County Government Employee Handbook and found it is out of date. She added she would like to hire the company to update the handbook. She went on to say the county would be able to pay for the update out of their liability insurance line within the county General Fund. She mentioned it would cost $6,000 to make the handbook compliant with an annual fee of $150 per year to update the handbook on a yearly basis.
Starke County Attorney Justin Schramm informed the commissioners he has used New Focus HR for this exact purpose and spoke highly of their work. He stated with the way laws change so quickly he believes it is a good expenditure.
Starke County Commissioner Mark Gourley made a motion to accept the proposal for services from New Focus HR. Commissioner Don Binkley seconded that motion. The commissioners then voted to approve the contract with New Focus HR and passed it unanimously.
