National Correctional Officers Week

The Pulaski County Council heard from Sheriff Chris Schramm during their meeting Monday.

Sheriff Schramm noted to the council and the public it is National Correctional Officers Week. He stated this week is set aside to honor the work of correctional officers and correctional personnel nationwide. He added this is an opportunity to thank those who serve and protect the public. He encouraged the council and the public to thank those who serve when they see them out in the community this week.

In 1984, President Ronald Reagan made a Presidential Proclamation to designate the first full week in May as a time to honor the work and the sacrifices of America’s correctional officers and employees. In 1996, Congress expanded National Correctional Officers Week to include all correctional employees, giving a long overdue “Thank You” to all the women and men who serve by working in corrections.
