The Starke County Economic Development Foundation (SCEDF) and the City of Knox are hosting a groundbreaking ceremony for the newest tenant in the Knox Industrial Park Monday, May 8.
Wakal Machining, LLC, will be located at 205 Kloeckner Drive. The facility will feature equipment and supplies for machining, which is a process where parts are cut, fabricated and finished to prepare them for use. The machining shop will be used in the creation of new parts, as well as repairs of existing equipment and parts for many local and regional clients.
Owner Bill Wakal has worked as a tool and die maker for more than 25 years. His wife Sherry, has a business background and their son has plans to join the family business after finishing college. The Wakals are Knox natives who saw the need for a machine shop in Starke County. They chose to build in the Knox Industrial Park due to its strategic location at the center of industry where many of their clients are located.
SCEDF sold two acres of land in the Knox Industrial Park to the Wakals for their business. The City of Knox is extending water and sewer service to the site to accommodate the new construction and future business expansion in the Knox Industrial Park.
The groundbreaking ceremony will be held at 205 Kloeckner Drive in Knox at 3:30 p.m. CT. Officials from SCEDF, the City of Knox and the Wakal family will offer brief remarks. Light refreshments will be served after the ceremony.
