The Starke County Commissioners discussed remodeling the Clerk’s Office during their meeting last week.
Starke County Clerk Bernadette Welter-Manuel told the commissioners the second floor of the Courthouse is long overdue for a remodel. She added the Clerk’s Office has not been updated since the 1960’s. She said it is getting to the point where the office is leaving a bad impressions on those who visit.
Starke County Commissioner Charlie Chesak stated it would make more sense to do more than updating paint and flooring. Commissioner Mark Gourley agreed the update should be something that will last and not be a touch up. He added the more recent renovations on the first and third floor of the Courthouse were meant to last and looking at something similar for the Clerk’s Office would be the best option.
The commissioners stated they would like Welter-Manuel to meet with Starke County Maintenance Director Rick Green and go over all updates needed to the second floor. They added they would like a full report on the updates needed at a future meeting.
