The Pulaski County Commissioners heard about a Local Road Safety Plan Grant during their meeting Monday.
K-IRPC representative Edwin Buswell informed the commissioners of what a Local Road Safety Plan does in terms of helping the county.
A Local Road Safety Plan provides a framework for organizing and prioritizing roadway safety improvements on local and rural roads. The process of developing a Local Road Safety Plan can be tailored to local protocols, needs and issues.
Buswell said this would open the county up to good opportunities when it comes to roadway safety. He went on to say the county would be able to apply for an 80 percent grant where the county would need to match 20 percent. He said the maximum amount the county would be expected to pay is $18,250 but K-IRPC expects that to be considerably lower based on proposals they have seen.
Buswell said the application for the grant is due July 10. He added if the commissioners were to participate in the grant it could be 2024 or 2025 before it would get started.
The commissioners made a motion to approve the Local Road Safety Plan. That motion was seconded and passed unanimously by vote.
