The North Judson Town Council discussed burn ordinances during their meeting last week.
It was brought to the attention of town council members the potential of harmful or illegal materials being burned within the town limits may be happening. Clerk-Treasurer Andrew Rowe stated if someone were to smell chemicals or any unlawful materials burning, they would need to contact the North Judson Police Department at 574-772-5914.
It was noted fines of $50 can be assessed if a burn pile burning harmful materials is reported and confirmed by town officials. North Judson Town Code states it is unlawful to burn garbage, rubbish, or noxious materials within the incorporated town limits.
Leaves, wood and yard waste may be burned if attended regularly by an adult. It is legal to burn barbeque materials, not normally of a noxious nature, and contained by a fireproof container, within the incorporated town limits, strictly for the purpose of outdoor grilling of food.
