The Starke County Council heard from the Starke County Fair Board and 4-H Council during their meeting Monday.
In a previous meeting, it was noted the council has various board appointments throughout Starke County but they do not have representation on the Starke County Fair Board or the Starke County 4-H Council. In that meeting, Council President Dave Pearman stated he would like to see the council have representation on the Fair Board and 4-H Council in efforts to help make the Starke County Fair better. He added he had received many calls of concern after this year’s fair.
Pearman made a motion in that same meeting to request that the Fair Board and the 4-H Council discuss and approve a county council appointment to their board and council. That motion was seconded and passed by vote with 1 abstention by Starke County Council member Cassandra Hine.
During this week’s meeting, several other council members agreed they would like to get involved in hopes they are able to create a bigger turnout. It was noted the council did not want to appoint someone that would only show up to vote on important matters pertaining to the Starke County Fair. They made clear they would like to appoint someone that would be involved with the Fair Board and 4-H Council throughout the year leading up to the event.
Starke County Fair Board member Bob Binkley stated to the council, he along with other board members would like to know who the council has in mind for the seat. He also stated they would like to know what ideas they have toward making the fair better before they can approve the seat. Binkley then invited council members that are seriously interested in helping the fair board to come to the next fair board meeting on Thursday, September 14 at 7 p.m. CT in the commercial building at the Starke County Fairgrounds.
Several Starke County Council members stated they would be there.
