Pulaski County Commissioners Approve CASA Grant Application

The Pulaski County Commissioners discussed the Indiana Supreme Court CASA grant during their meeting Monday.

Pulaski County Coordinator Sara Croft announced the total amount of the grant if awarded would be $7,868. She formally asked the commissioners for permission to apply for the grant. This grant, if awarded would cover operating expenses.

The Court-Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) Program speaks up for children who have been abused or neglected by empowering the community to volunteer as advocates for them in the court system. A CASA volunteer is a court-appointed, trained, and committed adult who ensures that each child’s individual needs remain a priority in an over-burdened child welfare system. He or she gets to know the child while also gathering information from the child’s family, teachers, doctors, care-givers, and anyone else involved in the child’s life in order to make independent and informed recommendations to help the judge decide what is best for the child.

The commissioners made a motion to approve applying for the grant. That motion was seconded and passed unanimously by vote.
