Starke County Commissioners Approve EMS Purchase

The Starke County Commissioners discussed the purchase of a chase vehicle for the EMS department during their meeting last week.

Starke County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Director James Garner formally requested the purchase of a 2019 Chevy Tahoe from Chicago Motors. It was mentioned the department is in need of a second chase/director vehicle. Garner stated the 2019 Tahoe has 69,000 miles and came in at $28,000. Garner also received quotes from Shepard’s Family Auto Group for a 2017 Chevy Tahoe in the amount of $36,960. Hare Chevrolet quoted a 2018 Chevy Tahoe in the amount of $33,261. Garner also found a 2019 Chevy Tahoe from CarGuru in the amount of $27,990.

Garner stated the funds are already available within his budget to use. He went on to say this addition would maximize the department’s response times for paramedic’s arrival on scenes for ALS calls. He said this addition would advance the EMS department to the next level of quality care to residents.

A motion was made to approve the purchase of the 2019 Chevy Tahoe from Chicago Motors. That motion was seconded and passed unanimously by vote.
