Starke County Commissioners Approve Health Insurance Renewals

The Starke County Commissioners continued discussions on the 2024 health insurance renewals for government employees during their meeting Monday.

In last week’s special session, Commissioner Mark Gourley asked to see another quote from Anthem with a higher deductible to be presented. Anthem’s original quote showed a 24.74 percent increase from 2023 for a total cost of $2,143,280.64. The commissioners also reviewed other quotes showing an increase of 10.91 percent from United Healthcare for a total of $1,905,731.28. Primary Health Physicians quoted a 2.39 percent increase for a total of $1,759,297.12. Anthem was then contacted about the other quotes received and they came back with a second quote where they went down to a five percent increase for a total of $1,804,063.68.

In their meeting Monday, Executive Director of 1st Source Insurance Debbie Rykovich announced Anthem stated they would go back to the original quote if the county would like to have a higher deductible. Commissioner Mark Gourley entertained a motion to approve the second quote from Anthem for a five percent increase in the amount of $1,804,063.68. Commissioner Don Binkley made a motion and Commissioner Mark Gourley seconded it. The commissioners then voted unanimously approving the health insurance renewals for 2024.
