The Starke County Commissioners approved an Interim Highway Superintendent during their meeting Monday.
It was announced that Starke County Highway Superintendent Dan Dipert had officially turned in his letter of resignation earlier this month on November 8. The commissioners made a motion to approve the resignation. That motion was seconded and passed unanimously by vote.
Commissioner Don Binkley then made a motion to appoint Starke County Auditor Rachel Oesterreich as the Interim Highway Superintendent while they search for someone new. That motion was seconded by Commissioner Charles Chesak. Chesak and Binkley both voted in favor of the appointment with Commissioner Mark Gourley abstaining. The motion carried.
In a follow up conversation, Auditor Oesterreich told WKVI News the county has already interviewed a prospective individual to fill the position and are currently still accepting applications. No timeline was given on when the commissioners would like to hire a new Highway Superintendent.
