The Starke County Commissioners discussed the autopsy fund for the coroner’s office during their meeting last week.
Starke County Coroner April Wilhelm informed the commissioners the autopsy fund has been all spent for what was budgeted this year. She added there have been more autopsies than the county had originally planned for. Wilhelm stated the price of autopsies has gone up from last year as well. It was noted the price per autopsy was $1,800 last year and this year it has gone up to $3,000.
Wilhelm formally asked the commissioners to approve any future autopsies be funded through ARPA for the remainder of the year. A motion was made to approve the coroner’s office using ARPA funds for any autopsies the coroner’s office has for the rest of 2023. That motion was seconded and passed unanimously by vote.
