The Starke County Commissioners discussed the 2024 health insurance renewals for government employees during their special session Wednesday.
Executive Director of 1st Source Insurance Debbie Rykovich announced Anthem quoted a 24.74 percent increase from 2023. That total cost came in at $2,143,280.64. She added they then went to market and received an increased quote of 10.91 percent from United Healthcare for a total of $1,905.731.28. Finally, Primary Health Physicians quoted a 2.39 percent increase for a total of $1,759,297.12.
Rykovich announced they went back to Anthem to let them know the other quotes they had received. Anthem then sent a much lower quote. She stated they went down to a five percent increase for a total of $1,804,063.68.
The commissioners took that information under review. Commissioner Mark Gourley asked for another quote from Anthem with a higher deductible to be presented before the commissioners at their next meeting.
That meeting is scheduled for Monday, November 6 at 5 p.m. CT in the ground floor meeting room of the Starke County Annex Building No. 1 at 53 E. Mound Street in Knox.
