Knox City Council Updated on Hotel Project

The Knox City Council heard an update on the potential for an upper, mid-scale hotel during their meeting last month.

City of Knox Mayor Dennis Estok informed the council they have their eye on property just south of 1st Source Bank but will need to annex that property as it is not within city limits. He stated the parcel of land is approximately 10 acres and would be a great location for the potential hotel.

Starke County Economic Development Foundation (SCEDF) Executive Assistant Mary Perren told WKVI News they are still working to secure investors in efforts to build a new hotel on the south end of Knox, per the feasibility study that was conducted last year.

One of those potential investors is the owner of the property just south of 1st Source Bank. Knox Mayor Dennis Estok and the City Council have agreed to annex that property to bring city water and sewer to that property.

Perren went on to say SCEDF is working with several investors and brands to bring a hotel to Knox to meet the needs of businesses and travelers. As previously reported, there are no franchise hotels on U.S. 35 between La Porte and Logansport, which is a 70-mile stretch. A hotel on the south end of Knox would also benefit Pulaski County.

Perren says they have letters of support from several businesses and organizations including OTES, Traffic Control Specialists, Doral Renewables, Community Services of Starke County, Renew U, and the Starke County Convention and Visitors Commission.

If anyone would like to invest in this project, they are instructed to contact SCEDF at 574-772-5627.
