The Knox City Council is asking City of Knox residents to participate in an online survey to develop an inventory of water service lines on residential properties.
During last week’s Knox City Council meeting Mayor Dennis Estok stated this survey will help the City determine what material every residential customer’s service line is made of. He added the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is requiring all drinking water utilities to publish a service line inventory in October of 2024.
Mayor Estok stated they will be conducting verification of service line materials including field inspections while also executing projects to reduce lead in the city’s water system. He said they have partnered with Abonmarche to help prepare this inventory list and submit the proper paperwork for the mandate.
Mayor Estok stated Abonmarche helped the city receive a $25,000 grant to help them with this project as well. He added they currently don’t know how many lead pipes are still being used on residential properties within the City of Knox. He said this survey would be a huge step in the process of putting together the city’s inventory and that the help from residents is greatly appreciated.
