Pulaski County Commissioners Approve CDC Appointment

The Pulaski County Commissioners continued discussions on the CDC restructuring and reorganization process during their meeting Monday.

In a previous story, Pulaski County Community Development Commission Executive Director Nathan Origer stated they have been struggling to fill the remaining seat on the Industrial Park Board that is legally required to be held by someone that works in organized labor within the building trades.

During the commissioner meeting Monday, Origer said he has since been notified that Councilman Brad Bonnell formally asked to be removed from the Advisory Commission on Industrial Development. He went on to say Commissioner John McCLure had generously suggested that with his past as a Union Pipe Fitter, he would be willing to serve in the building trades seat. Origer then formerly asked the commissioners to rescind Councilman Bonnell’s appointment and appoint Commissioner McClure to serve a partial term ending in 2025 representing both the county government and the building trades.

Origer stated the code says that the five sectors have to be filled but one person can fill more than one of the seats. He said if the commissioners were to approve rescinding the prior appointment and appoint McClure, that would leave the county with just a second partial term flex seat that is set up for someone representing the agriculture sector on the CDC.

Commission President Chuck Mellon made a motion to rescind Councilman Brad Bonnell’s appointment to the Advisory Commission on Industrial Development. That motion was seconded and passed unanimously by vote.

Commissioner Mellon then made a motion to approve Commissioner Mike McClure to serve a partial term ending in 2025 representing both the county government and the building trades. That motion was seconded and passed by vote with McClure abstaining.
