Starke County Commissioners Approve Purchase of New Security Camera System at Highway Department

The Starke County Commissioners discussed updating the Highway Department’s security camera system during their recent meeting.

Starke County Interim Highway Superintendent Rachel Oesterreich told WKVI News this has been an issue for the highway department for some time and the commissioners have been talking about updating the current security camera system for the past six months.

Starke County IT Director Stanley Budd brought forth quotes from companies to the commissioners at a previous meeting and was directed to find more information regarding licensing agreements. During their most recent meeting, it was announced the best quote received was from Verkada. Budd stated the quote included setup, installation of 12 cameras and a five-year licensing agreement. The total amount came in at $24,041.64.

Oesterreich told WKVI News the licensing agreement provides cloud storage for the camera footage saved over the next five years. A motion was made to approve the purchase of a new security camera system in the amount of $24,041.64 from the Cumulative Capitol Development Fund. That motion was seconded and passed unanimously by vote. No timetable was given on when the new system would be installed and completed.
