Starke County Commissioners Updated on New Security Camera System at Highway Department

The Starke County Commissioners heard an update on their newly purchased Highway Department’s security camera system during their meeting Monday.

Starke County IT Director Stanley Budd informed commissioners the estimated install date is some time in March of 2024. In a previous meeting the commissioners unanimously approved a quote from Verkada. It was announced the quote included setup, installation of 12 cameras and a five-year licensing agreement. The total amount came in at $24,041.64.

In a follow up interview, Budd told WKVI News, Verkada is currently booked out until March but because the commissioners approved the purchase at the previous meeting, this allowed the county to get locked in with them as soon as they could.

Starke County Interim Highway Superintendent Rachel Oesterreich told WKVI News the camera system has been an issue for the highway department for some time and the commissioners had been talking about updating the current security camera system for the past six months.
