The Starke County Council discussed servicing a transmission for one of the highway department’s loaders during their meeting last week.
Starke County Interim Highway Superintendent Rachel Oesterreich announced she had found out the department had been renting a loader for $6,700 a month instead of working toward fixing the loader the county owns. She stated the loader needs a new transmission. She went on to say she has since halted renting the loader and formally asked the commissioners to approve $30,000 to have a new transmission placed within the county’s loader.
A motion was made to approve the $30,000 amount or under to have a new transmission put in the county’s loader. That motion was seconded and passed unanimously by vote. Oesterreich told WKVI News, the amount will come out of Local Road and Street Funding.
