Retired Knox City Police Chief Honored at Knox City Council and Board of Works Meetings

Retired Knox City Police Chief Harold Smith was awarded a plaque and his issued fire arm during this week’s city council and Knox Board of Public Works meetings.

Retired Police Chief Harold Smith Awarded Issued Fire Arm for 30 Years of Service

In a previous Knox Board of Public Works meeting, Smith announced his retirement. He stated January 1, 2024 would mark his 30th anniversary with the Knox City Police Department. Prior to arriving in 1994, Smith worked for five years at the North Judson Police Department. He was the Knox City Police Chief for a total of 10 years. His final day as Police Chief was Tuesday, January 23.

During Tuesday’s Knox City Council meeting, Smith was awarded a plaque for his 30 years of outstanding dedication to the City of Knox. Knox Mayor Dennis Estok stated being a police officer is never an easy job and the city appreciates Chief Smith’s time. During the Knox Board of Public Works meeting on Wednesday, Chief Smith was awarded his issued fire arm for his dedication and commitment to the city. Mayor Estok said it is very rare these days to have someone stay that long in a department without moving on. He added the city appreciates his service.
