The Starke County Commissioners discussed potential changes to the golf cart ordinance during their meeting Monday.
Starke County Sheriff Jack Rosa went before the commissioners to get approval on one change to the current golf cart ordinance. Starke County Auditor Rachel Oesterreich told WKVI News, residents that purchase a yearly golf cart permit must physically bring their golf cart to a specified location where the Sheriff’s Department can conduct inspections. She added the inspections cost the county money in terms of someone from the Sheriff’s Department physically needing to be on site to hold these inspections.
Oesterrich said the changes brought forth by the Sheriff’s Department would eliminate the need for residents to physically bring their golf carts to inspection. She added residents would then sign paperwork attesting they have a fully functioning road legal golf cart that aligns with the current ordinance.
After some discussion, the commissioners made a motion to approve the change to the Starke County Golf Cart Ordinance. That motion was seconded and passed unanimously by vote.
