Starke County Council Discuss EMS Positions

The Starke County Council discussed rearranging positions for two employees at the EMS Department during their meeting Tuesday.

Starke County EMS Director James Garner formally asked the council to make two of the department’s drivers full time EMT’s. He added the two drivers are currently going through EMT school and stated this move would fill the two ful- time EMT vacancies the department currently has. It was mentioned he would like to make this a perpetual situation to where the department will always have individuals rotate through schooling while also covering staffing at the department.

It was mentioned this is not a new position, it would just be moving the two individuals from full-time drivers to full-time EMT’s. It was also noted they would be starting out at $14 an hour. A motion was made to approve the recommendation from EMS Director Garner. That motion was seconded and passed unanimously by vote.
