The Knox Board of Public Works heard an update from the Wastewater Department during their meeting Wednesday.
It was announced that Wastewater Superintendent Jason Clemons is currently in the process of renewing the city’s Wastewater Landfill Manifest. He stated element and lab testing are being conducted for a Toxicity Characteristic Leaching Procedure (TCLP) to determine whether there are hazardous elements present in the city’s waste. The test involves a simulation of leaching through a landfill and can provide a rating that can prove if the waste is dangerous to the environment or not.
It was noted several tests are being conducted for metals, volatiles, semi- volatiles and paint filter testing. Clemmons stated he is waiting for those results to arrive and once they do he will be sending them to Republic Services.
