Pulaski County Council Approves Hire for Health Department

The Pulaski County Council discussed the need to hire a nurse for the county health department during their meeting Monday.

It was announced the health department has been without a nurse since December of last year and that several applications have been received for consideration. It was mentioned four interviews have been conducted and one individual by far stood out the most. The individual was noted as having a Master’s Degree with 12 years of experience as a nurse. It was also mentioned the individual currently works in Pulaski County.

It was noted the department would like the individual to start as soon as possible in hopes to implement strategies to improve health in Pulaski County. The department formally asked the council to approve the hire of the individual with a higher starting wage than previously given. It was noted the health department already has the money available and that they are not asking for more money from the council. It was noted the previous nurse was paid $29.64 per hour and the increase being asked was to start the position at $32.51 per hour. It was also mentioned the job is for 35 hours a week.

A motion was made to approve the hire of the requested individual as the new nurse for the health department at $32.51 per hour. That motion was seconded and passed unanimously by vote.
