Starke County Commissioners and Council Updated on Potential CCMG Project

The Starke County Commissioners and Council were informed about a potential new Community Crossings Matching Grant (CCGM) project during their joint session last week.

Starke County Highway Interim Superintendent Rachel Oesterreich announced 2024-01 CCMG would consist of a hot mix asphalt inlay on 600 North, in certain areas from 600 East to State Road 23, 400 North from US 35 to Range Road and the new road within Deer View Estates Subdivision. Oesterreich told WKVI News, they applied for the CCMG through the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) in January. She stated the grant is an 80/20 match with the county needing to put forth $500,000 from the MVH Restricted Fund. She stated the total cost of the project is around $2 million with $1.5 million coming from the grant. She added they are expecting to be notified on if they have been awarded the grant very soon.

Oesterreich said if the county is awarded the 2024-01 CCMG, the project would be put out to bid with the potential for approval during the first commissioner meeting in May. If a bid is approved during that meeting, Oesterreich said the work would be completed over the summer of 2024.
