City of Knox Offering 50/50 Sidewalk Replacement Program

The City of Knox is offering a residential and business sidewalk replacement program for 2024.

In a press release, the City of Knox stated it will pay 50 percent of the cost of material and labor for sidewalk replacement, subject to several conditions. The Mayor’s Office will receive requests for residential or business sidewalk replacements until all available funds are used on a first-come, first-served basis and until monies to support this program run out. Secondly, the street superintendent will measure and inspect the request and approve or disapprove the work order. After the bid is awarded to the contractor, the property owner will be notified of the cost and must pay 50 percent to the city before construction begins.

The property owner’s share must be paid within 14 days of notification in order for the project to continue. If payment is not received within the 14 days, the project will be placed on the bottom of the work schedule. Upon completion of work, the street superintendent will make a final inspection and approve payment to the contractor doing the work.

Applications must be dated and received by Friday, May 10 at 4 p.m. CT. If interested, you are encouraged to apply at the Mayor’s office in Knox at 101 West Washington Street.
