Knox City Council Adopts Trash Removal Contract Renewal

The Knox City Council held additional readings of the trash removal contract renewal during their meeting Tuesday.

In a previous meeting, City of Knox Mayor Dennis Estok announced the city’s contract with Republic Services comes to an end on July 31. He stated an extension had been offered by Republic Services that would increase the current amount $1.34 per month for the first year, $0.67 per month for the second year and $0.69 per month for the third year. He stated that would be a total of a $2.70 increase for the three years.

It was announced the city saved $267,530 by going with Republic Services contract during the previous trash removal contract renewal. The city previously used Waste Management and if the council had approved their contract instead of Republic Services, they would have had a monthly trash removal price of $21.45 this year. The city is currently being charged $15.40 per month and by year three if this renewal with Republic Services were to be approved, the city would be paying $18.01 per month in year three.

During Tuesday’s council meeting, a motion was made to approve the second reading and adoption of the trash removal contract renewal with Republic Services. That motion was seconded and passed unanimously by vote.
