The Pulaski County Commissioners discussed the courthouse project during their meeting Monday.
Pulaski County Community Development Commission (CDC) Executive Director Nathan Origer informed commissioners Project Superintendent John Allen along with others had started their first official day of work on Monday. He stated John Allen is the same individual that ran the Justice Center project and was on-site last week in preparation for the work ahead. He stated there will be an early emphasis on prep work for demolition, utility disconnection, protection and or removal of pieces that are in the building and are to be preserved. He stated, in one to two weeks, sledge hammers should be in use to begin the remodeling.
Origer stated, site fencing will be installed Wednesday, May 29. Origer mentioned this will encompass the entire courthouse square, including sidewalks on the north, west, and south sides of the building. He stated, sidewalks on the north and west sides of Main and Market Streets, respectively, will have to be used beginning May 29. He added, the eastside sidewalk, along the west side of U.S. 35 and Monticello Street, will remain open.
Origer announced the installation of fencing will also close much of Meridian Street. He said that part of Meridian Street parallel providing access to Howard’s Marathon is a public street in the Town of Winamac’s street inventory and will remain open. Through access on Meridian Street will not be possible.
Origer announced, the westernmost part of Meridian Street providing access to parking spots in front of the Justice Center and on the western part of the south side of the courthouse square will be open for Justice Center visitors, but through access will not be possible. Origer said Justice Center elected officials, department heads and others have also been advised of this.
