Starke County Commissioners Open Bids for CCMG Project

The Starke County Commissioners opened bids for a Community Crossings Matching Grant (CCMG) project during their meeting Monday.

In a previous story, Starke County Highway Interim Superintendent Rachel Oesterreich announced the county had been approved by the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) for the 2024-01 CCMG project. She added they had been granted the full $1.5 million for the project that will consist of a hot mix asphalt inlay on 600 North, in certain areas from 600 East to State Road 23, 400 North from U.S. 35 to Range Road and the new road within Deer View Estates Subdivision.

As previously reported, the county applied for the CCMG through INDOT this past January. The grant is an 80/20 match with the county needing to put forth $500,000 from the MVH Restricted Fund. The total cost of the project is around $2 million with the $1.5 million coming from the grant.

During Monday’s meeting, the first bid received came from Rieth Riley in the amount of $923,627.15. The second bid received came from Milestone Contractors out of South Bend in the amount of $899,900. It was announced those were the only two bids received. Starke County Auditor Rachel Oesterreich asked the commissioners to have the bids thoroughly checked by Starke County Attorney Justin Schramm to make sure everything in in order. She stated they would have the bids up for approval at the commissioners first meeting in June.

If a bid is approved during that meeting, Oesterreich told WKVI News the work would be completed over the summer of 2024.
