The Starke County Commissioners and Council heard an EMS update during their joint session last week.
Starke County EMS Director James Garner announced his department is 87 percent staffed and currently has more than two paramedics on each shift at all times. He stated they did 46 transfers within the month of April. He went on to say they do not have any openings for full-time EMTs but that two applicants are on a waiting list if that were to change. He stated two part-time drivers were going through EMT class and were on track to graduate last week. Garner said two new full-time paramedics were recently hired as well.
It was then announced the EMS department received a $10,000 donation from the Northern Indiana Community Foundation. Garner said this will help keep the department’s protective equipment in good shape for the foreseeable future.
