Knox City Council Holds Public Hearing for Property Annexation

The Knox City Council held a public hearing along with first readings for the property to be annexed in efforts to potentially bring an upper, mid-scale hotel during their meeting last week.

In a previous story, City of Knox Mayor Dennis Estok informed the council they had their eye on property just south of 1st Source Bank but will need to annex that property as it is not within city limits. He stated the parcel of land is approximately 10 acres and would be a great location for the potential hotel.

During last week’s meeting, Mayor Estok opened the public hearing for comment with no comment made. The council then held the first reading on the first half of the property south of 1st Source Bank in Knox. A motion was made to approve the first reading. That motion was seconded and passed unanimously by vote. The council then held the first reading on the second half of the property north of JR Weaver LLC. A motion was made to approve the first reading. That motion was seconded and passed unanimously by vote.

City of Knox Mayor Dennis Estok told WKVI News the second reading for both parcels of land will be held during the council meeting next Tuesday. He added if the council were to approve the second and final reading, both properties would become City of Knox property. He went on to say the city is still looking for private investors toward this potential hotel project. If anyone would like to invest in this project, they are instructed to contact the Mayor’s Office at 574-772-4553.
