The Starke County Council heard from Auditor Rachel Oesterreich during their meeting Monday.
Oesterreich informed the council she is resigning as the Starke County Auditor and her last day will be Sunday, June 30. In a previous story, the Starke County Commissioners approved a five year contract for Oesterreich to become the new Highway Superintendent.
During Monday’s council meeting, several council members thanked Oesterreich for her professionalism and wished her well in her new position as the Starke County Highway Superintendent. Oesterreich was appointed to be the Starke County Highway Interim Superintendent this past November, giving the commissioners time to find someone. In that time, they found Oesterreich to be the best candidate.
Oesterreich told WKVI News, the Governor of Indiana will now send a letter to Starke County Democratic Party Chairman Lonnie Boley to have a caucus held in effort to fill Oesterreich’s remaining term that ends December 31, 2026.
