The Starke County Commissioners approved a five year contract for Rachel Oesterreich to become the new Highway Superintendent during their meeting Monday.
Starke County Auditor Oesterreich was appointed to be the Starke County Highway Interim Superintendent this past November, giving the commissioners time to find someone. During Monday’s meeting, Commission President Don Binkley announced, the commissioners would like to offer Oesterreich a five year contract to become the next Starke County Highway Superintendent.
Binkley then asked Oesterreich if she would accept the contract terms. Oesterreich accepted, then Starke County Commissioner Mark Gourley made a motion to approve the employment agreement as presented. Commissioner Charles Chesak seconded that motion and the commissioners approved the the 5 year contract with Oesterreich unanimously.
In a follow up, Oesterreich told WKVI News, her last day as the Starke County Auditor will be June 30th. She stated the Governor of Indiana will now send a letter to Starke County Democratic Party Chairman Lonnie Boley to have a caucus held in effort to fill Oesterreich’s remaining term that ends December 31, 2026.
