The Starke County Commissioners are still looking to appoint someone to the Kankakee-Iroquois Regional Planning Commission (K-IRPC) Board of Commissioners.
Starke County Auditor Rachel Oesterreich told WKVI News the position has been open since January. She added the appointment would be for the remainder of 2024.
The active participation by board members is vital to the ongoing success of K-IRPC and allows them to better understand and address the needs of the community. According to the requirements of Indiana State Code 36-7-7, the commissioners are allowed three representatives on the K-IRPC Board.
K-IRPC was founded as a multi-county governmental service agency in 1973 for the purpose of assisting local units of government in their efforts to improve and strengthen community and economic conditions and opportunities. In addition to community and economic development programs, K-IRPC operates the Head Start Program in three counties, the Arrowhead Country Public Transportation System in four counties, and is the Rural Transportation Planning Organization for seven counties in the region.
Oesterreich stated if anyone is interested in being considered, they are asked to contact the Auditor’s Office at 574-772-9101.
