The Knox City Council continued discussions on renovating City Hall during their meeting Tuesday.
In a previous meeting, City of Knox Mayor Dennis Estok informed the council, starting next year all public meetings must live stream online. He went on to say with this mandatory update, City Hall has not been renovated in some time. It was noted the carpet and flooring needs attention as well as the building’s HVAC system. Mayor Estok mentioned the HVAC system has issues with heating the building evenly.
Mayor Estok stated the city has $100,000 of funds available for a project like this but doubts the kind of renovations discussed would be anywhere near that amount. He was approved by the council to seek quotes for the renovations at City Hall.
During their meeting on Tuesday, Mayor Estok announced he proposed the HVAC system update to three separate companies. He stated the city received two quotes, one from McGrath Refrigeration and the other from Standard Plumbing Heating and Air Conditioning. It was noted the total bid from McGrath came in at $70,000 with Standard’s coming in much lower. Estok stated the second bid received from Standard was more affordable but stated the layout provided by McGrath in their proposal fit more to what the city is looking for.
Council member Donald Kring made a motion to accept the $70,000 bid from McGrath Refrigeration. That motion was seconded by council member Sherry Cowen. The council briefly discussed adding the capability to live stream meetings, but no action was taken. It was noted the council will be discussing this at a future meeting.
