The Pulaski County Council and the Pulaski County Commissioners heard an update on the courthouse project during their recent meetings.
Pulaski County Community Development Commission (CDC) Executive Director Nathan Origer announced, excavation work has been going on at the courthouse in anticipation for removal of a retaining wall, installation of underground site utilities and waterproofing of the foundation. He went on to say, three buried time capsules have been properly removed and will safely be stored until they are able to bury each capsule toward the end of the project.
Origer went on to announce, half of the retaining wall could be saved for possible re-installation. He stated, a local landowning couple had volunteered part of their property that is fairly close to town for storage of the retaining wall.
In a previous meeting, Origer stated more hardwood flooring throughout the courthouse had been found during the demolition of areas under construction. He stated, this may lead to small changes in plans, depending on the condition of the wood as well.
He noted that there have been more historical treasures found during this process. There was campaign information found as well as a ballot machine user guide from the late 1950s or 1960s.
