The Knox City Council discussed the extension given for applications involving the second pop-up store during their meeting Tuesday.
City of Knox Mayor Dennis Estok announced they have received two applications thus far. He added one of the two is a new start up business and the other is an existing business. Knox City Council President Jeff Berg stated, Modern Mercantile and Bianca Rose Florist are the two applications they have received. It was also announced the Redevelopment Commission (RDC) does not make the decision on who the city will choose. Mayor Estok said a committee comprised of local business owners will collectively make the decision on which business is the best fit for the second pop-up store location.
The pop-up store located at 6 North Main Street in Knox offers low cost start up fees to small businesses with the hope of giving them a head start in becoming successful. This program is designed to attract small businesses and create retail shopping downtown Knox. Business owners will have an opportunity to sell and showcase products and services of interest to area residents and tourists.
Applications for this store are online at the city website or by calling the Mayor’s office at 574-772-4553. It was noted the city will strive to provide diversity in their vendor offerings to the public and applications will be reviewed with that in mind. If selected, a lease agreement will be provided by the City.
The deadline has been extended to Friday, August 23.
