The Starke County Commissioners discussed purchasing a new lawn mower for the sheriff’s department during their meeting Monday.
Starke County Sheriff Jack Rosa announced the department’s current lawn mower was purchased over nine years ago and had recently broke down. He brought forth quotes for a new lawn mower for the commissioners to consider. The first quote came in the amount of $7,609 from Smith Farm Store in Knox for a 61 inch Scag Patriot Zero-Turn mower. The second quote came in at $6,799.99 from Tractor Supply in Knox for a 60 inch Bad Boy Maverick Zero-Turn mower. The final quote received came from Ronson Equipment in Westville for a 60 inch Kioti Zero-Turn mower in the amount of $7,200.
After discussing the amount it would take to fix the current nine year old lawn mower, it was decided to purchase a new one for the department instead. It was noted, due to warranties, maintenance agreements, and quality, the Kioti from Ronson seemed to be the best option.
Commissioner Don Binkley made a motion to approve the quote from Ronson Equipment in the amount $7,200 to be taken out of the Jail CEDIT Fund. That motion was seconded by Commissioner Mark Gourley and passed unanimously by vote.
