The Knox Board of Public Works discussed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Knox Community School Corporation during their meeting Wednesday.
In a previous story, the Knox Community School Board members signed a resolution to create a corporation police department. City of Knox Mayor Dennis Estok announced during Wednesday’s Board of Public Works meeting the current MOU with the Knox Community School Corporation is being terminated and will end Friday, September 27. It was noted the MOU with the city provided a school resource officer for the corporation and with the new police department being formed the MOU was no longer needed.
The Knox Community School Corporation is not the only area school to have its own police department. The Oregon-Davis School Corporation and the Culver Community School Corporation that have their own police departments in place with staff to focus on student safety. The North Judson-San Pierre School Corporation is also considering having its own police department.
