The Knox City Council continued discussions on renovating City Hall during their meeting last week.
In a previous meeting, City of Knox Mayor Dennis Estok informed the council, starting next year all public meetings must live stream online by July 1, 2025. He went on to say with this mandatory update, City Hall has not been renovated in some time. It was noted the carpet and flooring needs attention as well as the building’s HVAC system. Mayor Estok mentioned the HVAC system has issues with heating the building evenly.
During a City Council meeting last month, Mayor Estok announced he proposed the HVAC system update to three separate companies. He stated the city received two quotes, one from McGrath Refrigeration and the other from Standard Plumbing Heating and Air Conditioning. It was noted the total bid from McGrath came in at $70,000 with Standard’s coming in much lower. Estok stated the second bid received from Standard was more affordable but stated the layout provided by McGrath in their proposal fit more to what the city was looking for. The council approved the bid from McGrath unanimously by vote.
During their meeting last week, the council discussed having electronic council meetings streamed online. He stated this is something many municipalities are doing now since the pandemic. He went on to say this would give the council an opportunity to still be part of meetings if they happen to be out of town as well as giving the public more opportunities to know what takes place during each meeting if they are unable to attend.
Council member Donald Kring made a motion to approve resolution 7 involving the addition of streaming future Knox City Council meetings online. That motion was seconded by Council President Jeff Berg and passed unanimously by vote. No timetable was announced on when Knox City Council meetings would begin live streaming.
