The Starke County Commissioners discussed a Community Crossings Matching Grant (CCMG) project during their last meeting.
Starke County Highway Superintendent Rachel Oesterreich announced the county had been approved by the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) for the 2024-01 CCMG project. She added they had been granted the full $1.5 million for the project that will consist of a hot mix asphalt inlay on 600 North, in certain areas from 600 East to State Road 23, 400 North from U.S. 35 to Range Road and the new road within the Deer View Estates Subdivision.
As previously reported, the county applied for the CCMG through INDOT this past January. The grant is an 80/20 match with the county needing to put forth $500,000 from the MVH Restricted Fund. The total cost of the project is around $2 million with the $1.5 million coming from the grant.
During a previous meeting, the lowest bid received came from Milestone Contractors out of South Bend in the amount of $899,900. That bid was passed unanimously by vote. During the commissioner’s most recent meeting, Oesterreich stated this project was expected to be complete this summer. She added they are awaiting word from Milestone on when they will begin work. She stated they hope to have word from Milestone soon.
