Knox City Council members reviewed the proposed annual contract with the Starke County Economic Development Foundation (SCEDF) during their meeting last week.
City of Knox Mayor Dennis Estok said the contract is up for renewal in 2025. It was noted that SCEDF had been without an executive director for several months during the 2024 contract. Last month, Mikie Stogsdill was announced as the new executive director for SCEDF and has begun work in her new capacity.
Council member Sherry Cowen made a motion to reduce the amount given by the City of Knox from $75,000 to $50,000. It was noted a six month notice is needed by SCEDF to adjust that amount. City of Knox Mayor Dennis Estok told WKVI News he expects the decrease to $50,000 to be implemented some time in April of 2025. He stated the city will have to pay the originally agreed to amount until that time when they are able to reduce the 2025 contract to $50,000.
Cowen’s motion was seconded and passed unanimously by vote.
