San Pierre man leads Pulaski County officer on high-speed chase

According to information shared by the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office, on September 15, 2025 at approximately 8:00 P.M. Deputy Leszek was on patrol in the area of County Road 600 North. In the area of County Road 1075 West, he observed a Dodge Dart nearly hit another vehicle head on.

Deputy Leszek attempted to conduct a traffic stop on this vehicle.


After activating his emergency lights, the vehicle took Deputy Leszek on a high-speed pursuit across Pulaski County. At one point reaching speeds of 100 miles per hour. They traveled to the Jasper-Pulaski Fish and Wildlife area, down US 421, and through the Town of Medaryville.

While on US 421 before Medaryville, Deputy Foust was in position with Stop-Sticks. Deputy Foust deployed the device perfectly. The suspect vehicle hit the stop sticks resulting in complete tire deflation. After the tires were flattened, the vehicle only traveled approximately 1 mile. The vehicle then turned into a wooded area outside of Medaryville.

The vehicle eventually came to rest in the same wooded area. The suspect acted as if he was going continue to flee the vehicle, and continue the pursuit on foot. Deputy Leszek exited his vehicle with his K-9 Partner Tiko. As Deputy Leszek made K-9 warning announcements, the suspect put his hands up and complied immediately.

The suspect was identified as Dustin Cannon, 42 years of age, from San Pierre. Charges include Resisting Law Enforcement with a Motor Vehicle, Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of Controlled Substances. Mr. Cannon also had active out of county arrest warrants.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
