As the federal government shutdown continues, area churches and organizations are stepping up to help local residents with food assistance.
In Winamac, the Mission Team of the Winamac First United Methodist Church has announced that they will begin serving free soup and sandwich dinners every Wednesday. These dinners will be held from 5 – 6:30pm Eastern Time at the First United Methodist Church, located at State Road 35 and Spring Street in Winamac. These meals are open to everyone, and the church stated that they will continue until EBT and SNAP benefits are restored.
Volunteers and food donations are also being accepted to help with the weekly meals.
