LA PORTE – According to Kankakee Valley REMC, it was an exciting week for their Junior Board of Directors.
An announcement recently shares that the group, which is made up of twelve local high school juniors, had a busy session last week.
Junior Board members attended a La Porte County Commissioners meeting, to allow them a first-hand look at how local government works.
The Junior Board also received some hands-on learning with the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies Austin Wells and Austin Howell, along with K9 officer Simba, gave students a special demonstration.
The students learned how K9s are trained to detect illegal substances and help keep the community safe, as well as how drones are used in accident investigations and search-and-rescue missions.
Kankakee Valley REMC expressed gratitude towards the deputies and Simba for sharing their time, expertise, and service; and to the Junior Board members for representing the co-op with enthusiasm and curiosity.
